kirby-c550-signature-series-canister-vacuum
Kirby C550 Signature Series Premium Canister Vacuum with Multi Surface Power Nozzle

Kirby positions the C550 as the most versatile of its three Signature Series machines: a bagged canister with an electric Multi-Surface Power Nozzle for carpet, a separate hard floor nozzle, and a Turbo Air Brush for stairs and furniture. It comes in two colors, Pure Platinum and Kirby Blue, and both have the same specifications.

Where it fits

Kirby's comparison chart places the C550 with homes that mix carpet and hard floors, and calls it the pick for large homes with multiple levels. It rates the C550 Excellent for deep carpet cleaning, hard floors, pet hair and stairs, and Good for storage convenience. The body of a canister stays on the floor while you carry the hose and wand, and this one weighs 14.5 pounds.

Two ways to clean a bare floor

Move the brush roll switch on the control handle to off, drop the power nozzle to height 1, and you can run the electric nozzle over hard floors. Or swap in the hard floor nozzle: press the nozzle release while lifting the wand, then slide the wand into the new head. The fit is a friction fit, so you will not hear a click. Either way, the 4-speed AirFlow Control dial lets you pull suction down for rugs and delicate surfaces.

Tools that stay with the machine

The duster brush and upholstery tool live in an onboard compartment on the canister. The Turbo Air Brush and crevice tool go in the attachment bag, and the crevice tool also clips to a holster on the wand. Kirby's manual singles out the Turbo Air Brush for embedded pet hair on furniture and for carpeted stairs. A stainless steel adjustable wand, automatic cord rewind, onboard accessory storage and Glide Control steering round out the design.

Colors and model numbers

Pure Platinum: C550PP, SKU 2C550PP000

Kirby Blue: C550KB, SKU 2C550KB000

In the box

Multi-Surface Power Nozzle and hard floor nozzle

Turbo Air Brush, crevice tool with holster, duster brush and upholstery tool

Accessory bag

Extra 3-pack of PureAir HEPA filter bags

Specifications

Model / colors

C550PP Pure Platinum, C550KB Kirby Blue

Main unit weight

14.5 lb

Filter bag capacity

4.1 L (1.1 gal)

Primary nozzle

Multi-Surface Power Nozzle, 13.5 in wide, 6 height settings

Suction motor / brush motor

1200 W / 250 W

Airflow (motor rating)

131 CFM

Brush speed (free spin)

8,900 RPM

Cord / hose

24 ft / 7 ft

Total cleaning radius

37 ft

Sound level

60 dBA

Filtration

PureAir Dual HEPA; full-system HEPA, independently certified to ASTM F3150 (per Kirby's owner's manual)

Warranty

8-year limited warranty (motor and labor); 5 years on other parts and labor

Avon Vacuums is an authorized Kirby dealer for the Signature Series, so this machine is sold new with Kirby's warranty, and warranty service is handled at our own repair bench in Avon, Connecticut.

Routine care

To change the bag on the C550, unplug it, take the hose off the secure hose connect, pull the seal cap from the onboard compartment and raise the bag door.
