Every New England house has a shovel by the door for the three inches that do not justify the snowblower, and the Titan T500 is that shovel for floors. It is an 11-pound cordless upright with a 44-volt lithium-ion battery, a 312-watt motor, a 12-inch cleaning path and a self-sealing HEPA media bag, rated for up to 50 minutes of runtime. The bag is the unusual part: most cordless machines are bagless, and a bag means you empty it into the trash with nothing escaping. It has a wood brushroll with crimped bristles, an LED headlight, rubber wheels and a bare-floor squeegee.

Why we like it
- Eleven pounds and no cord. You will actually use it, which counts for more than any spec on a vacuum that sits in a closet.
- A self-sealing HEPA media bag on a cordless machine is rare. Dust goes in the bag and stays there; there is no canister to knock out over the trash.
- The wood brushroll with crimped bristles is the sort of part that is on a vacuum because it works, not because it photographs well.
- An LED headlight shows the dog hair under the table, and the bare-floor squeegee picks up fine grit a brush would scatter.
Think twice if
- Your house is mostly wall-to-wall carpet and the vacuum runs an hour at a time. A corded upright like the T3200 or T4000.2 is the right tool for that.
- You want a bagless machine. The T500's whole point is the bag; if you prefer a dust cup, this is not your vacuum.
- You need onboard tools and a hose. The T500 is a floor machine; stairs and upholstery need a canister or a tooled upright.

A factory-sealed, unused T500 may be returned within 30 days with the buyer paying return shipping; an opened machine with a problem is handled through the manufacturer warranty with our help.

How long does the battery last?
Up to 50 minutes on a charge, depending on the setting, the floor and how full the bag is. For a daily pass through the main floor that is plenty.
Does it really use bags?
Yes, a self-sealing HEPA media bag. You pull it out, it seals itself, and it goes in the trash. We stock the bags.
Is it good on bare floors?
It has a bare-floor squeegee and rubber wheels, and the brushroll is a wood roller with crimped bristles rather than a stiff one. Fine grit on hardwood is what the squeegee is for.
What does it weigh?
Eleven pounds, with a carry handle. It is meant to be carried up a flight of stairs without thinking about it.
