The HES is the adjustable tube that links the handle to the floor tool on Miele's pure-suction canisters. This one is a plain suction wand, so it carries air and nothing else.
Who it is for
Owners of pure-suction Miele canisters only. If your floor tool is powered through the wand, as an electrobrush is, this is not the part. A pure-suction wand does not carry electrical power to a brush.
Before you order, check both ends: the latch where the wand meets your handle, and the connection to your floor tool.
Reach
It extends continuously up to 1,027 mm, roughly 40½ inches, so you can set it to a comfortable height for floor work and slide it short again for storage.

Looking after the wand
Wipe the tube with a dry cloth now and then, and slide it through its full range once in a while so you notice any stiffness early. A wand that sticks or will not lock is a good reason to replace it, because a loose joint leaks suction at the connection.
