Pick the C530 if most of your home is hard floor and area rugs with a few small carpeted rooms. It is the Signature Series canister without an electric power nozzle: it uses an air-powered Turbo Nozzle for carpet and rugs, plus a hard floor nozzle, and comes in Carbon Black.
What the Turbo Nozzle does
An air-powered turbo nozzle spins its brush with the airflow the vacuum creates instead of with its own motor. Kirby rates the brush speed at 7,800 RPM and the nozzle is 11 inches wide. Fit the wand into it with a push, since it is a friction fit with no click, and switch the machine on. The manual's tip for a hard push on carpet is to slide the air release valve on the nozzle up, which eases the pull. Kirby's manual also says that, for the cleaning-efficiency result it quotes from ASTM F608 testing, you attach the Turbo Nozzle and set the airflow dial to level 4.
Compared with the C550
Kirby's chart rates the C530 Good for deep carpet cleaning, against Excellent for the C550, and Very Good for pet hair. It rates it Excellent for hard floors and stairs, and it names homes with hard floors and rugs, mid-size homes and condos as the target. Kirby lists no brush motor and no LumiGuide lights for the C530, and it is the quieter machine at 58.2 dBA, with sound-dampening technology listed among its features.
Handling
The 24-foot cord retracts automatically, the 7-foot hose and stainless steel adjustable wand give a 37-foot cleaning radius, and tools store onboard. Kirby lists a 4.1-liter PureAir HEPA bag and a four-level display that shows airflow and flags a full bag or a filter due for replacement.

Upkeep
The pre-motor foam filter is washable; rinse it in lukewarm water, never with soap, and let it dry for at least 24 hours before it goes back in. Replace the system filter once a year. Kirby's manual says to unplug before any servicing, to store the canister upright, and to use only genuine Kirby bags and filters.
Warranty and where it is made
Kirby's published warranty covers the unit motor and labor for eight years and all other parts and labor for five years, for household use. It excludes expendable parts such as HEPA filters, filter bags, attachments and brush rolls, and warranty work is done by Kirby's own service-center network. It will clean carpet, but Kirby rates it Good there and says this model suits small carpeted rooms. For mostly carpet, the V530 upright or C550 is the closer match.
