A cordless vacuum should make your daily cleaning easier. The right choice depends on what you lift, what you clean, and how long you need to keep going.

The SEBO Balance A1, Miele Triflex HX1 Facelift, HX2, and HX3 approach those jobs differently. SEBO emphasizes a light machine with a broad accessory package. Miele's Triflex design lets you move the motor unit between different positions, and its generations differ in controls, filtration, runtime, and available tools.

This guide explains those differences in detail, including the six U.S. HX3 packages. It is based on manufacturer specifications and operating guidance, with practical buying advice from Avon Vacuums. It is not a claim that we have completed a controlled, side-by-side cleaning test of all four machines.

This table compares the machine families. Equipment varies by package, especially within Miele's range. The standard HX1 Facelift and the HX1 Facelift Flash are not identical specifications.

Weights are approximate manufacturer figures, not measurements of weight at the handle. SEBO's U.S. materials round the A1's weight differently; its manual lists a typical working weight of 5.1 lb. Actual fitted tools change what you carry.

Handling, controls, and storage

The Balance A1's approximately five-pound weight matters if you regularly carry a vacuum upstairs, lift it into a car, or alternate between floors and furniture. Relative to the approximately eight-pound Triflex machines, it is a meaningfully lighter complete machine on the published figures.

Its on/off trigger needs a brief press rather than continuous squeezing. Separate controls select three power levels, and the display shows battery charge as a percentage. That percentage is useful, but it is not the same information as HX3's estimate of cleaning time remaining.

The included station organizes the vacuum and accessories, with a wall-mount option. Give the stand a real place in your home before buying: a tool is more useful when it is easy to find and put away.

What comes with the Balance A1?

The U.S. package includes an LED power brush, a mini power brush, an illuminated crevice nozzle, a dusting/upholstery nozzle, a separate dusting brush, and an extension hose. It also includes the MultiCare universal roller and MicroCare hard-floor roller, a removable battery, charger, and storage components.

The two rollers serve different purposes and fit the floor brush; they are not two complete floorheads. The mini powered brush gives the A1 a useful upholstery option without requiring a separate pet-branded package. For a home with a sofa, stairs, and a car to clean, that included equipment deserves as much attention as the vacuum's price.

Cleaning system and practical tradeoffs

SEBO describes a main cyclone, six smaller cyclones, a motor-protection filter, and a micro-hygiene filter. The powered floor brush includes lighting and an anti-hair-wrap feature. Brush or airflow obstructions can trigger protective shutoff. These features still require you to inspect for hair, debris, and clogs.

The 0.38-liter container is smaller than the Triflex's 0.5-liter container. That is a capacity difference, although the number of emptying stops depends on what you collect. Fluffy pet hair and bulky debris can fill a small bin quickly.

When the A1 makes sense: you prioritize carrying weight, want several useful tools included, and mainly clean in manageable sessions. Spend time holding it in the configurations you will use. A lighter total weight does not make every wrist position comfortable for every person.

Miele Triflex HX1 Facelift: understand the exact version

The HX1 Facelift is the revised HX1 generation. It should not be confused with the original Triflex HX1 or the separate Miele Duoflex HX1 family. Those names are similar enough that broad searches for “Miele HX1” can return the wrong specifications.

The Triflex design is its main attraction

In Comfort mode, the motor and container sit low, close to the floorhead. In Reach mode, the motor sits at the top of the wand. In Compact mode, the PowerUnit works as a handheld vacuum with a suitable attachment.

Moving the motor changes where the weight sits; it does not make the vacuum lighter on a scale. The low configuration is worth trying if a conventional stick vacuum feels heavy at your wrist. The upper configuration gives the wand more access beneath furniture, while handheld use suits shorter, closer jobs.

Standard HX1 Facelift versus Flash

Miele lists the standard Obsidian Black HX1 Facelift, item 11826980, with a Hygiene Lifetime filter and the MultiFloor XXL SEB 430 electrobrush. The Flash, item 12206760, has a HEPA Lifetime filter and the illuminated SEB 435 floorhead.

Both include basic dusting, crevice, and upholstery tools, but an upholstery nozzle is different from a motorized upholstery brush. A shopper who wants both HEPA filtration and an illuminated head should verify the actual version instead of assuming those features come with every Facelift.

When the HX1 Facelift makes sense: you want the Triflex layout, prefer simple slide controls, and find a package whose price and equipment fit your needs. Compare the cost of any missing tools before treating an older generation as a bargain. A lower purchase price helps only if the machine does the jobs you bought it for.

Miele Triflex HX2: the motor update and pet-focused packages

The HX2 retains the Triflex layout and adds Miele's Digital Efficiency Motor. Miele also documents automatic flooring recognition on its wide electrobrush. That recognition is a real HX2 feature; it should not be described as something that first appeared with HX3.

Miele promoted increased power when introducing HX2. A manufacturer power claim, however, is not a measured percentage improvement in dirt removal on your carpet, nor a comparison against the Balance A1. Floorhead design, the debris being collected, airflow, and the surface all affect the result.

What the HX2 Cat & Dog adds

The U.S. HX2 Cat & Dog, item 11827010, combines a HEPA Lifetime filter, a BrilliantLight floorhead, and an Electro Compact powered handheld brush. The small powered head is the practical pet-related addition for appropriate upholstery, stairs, and car interiors.

It is not evidence that this version has a unique pet-hair suction motor. Nor should the Cat & Dog name be used to infer a charcoal odor filter: the listed filter on this model is HEPA Lifetime.

Other HX2 packages change the equipment. The standard model uses an unlit floorhead, while some packages add a spare battery or specialist rollers. When comparing remaining HX2 stock, read the included-equipment list for the exact item.

When the HX2 makes sense: the price, powered tools, and controls suit your routine. At equal prices for comparable HX2 and HX3 packages, HX3's newer controls and longer published low-power runtime deserve attention. That is a reason to compare them carefully, rather than assume the newer machine must clean every surface better.

Miele Triflex HX3: what changed, and which package does what?

The HX3 keeps the familiar three-position design. Its useful updates include a display with an estimate of remaining cleaning time, a short Boost function, and expanded wet-cleaning options. Low-power runtime with electrical accessories rises to a published 38 minutes per battery, compared with 30 minutes for HX1 Facelift and HX2.

Boost is temporary: Miele describes a 42% power increase for 10 seconds. It is an on-demand burst, not a claim that HX3 always delivers 42% more cleaning performance than HX2 or SEBO.

FloorDetect adjusts to flooring: Miele describes automatic adjustment of suction and roller speed. It is a convenience feature, not a guarantee of compatibility with every rug.

HEPA and bin handling: Miele lists HEPA Lifetime filtration across the six U.S. packages, plus Twist2open emptying. Twist2open itself is not new to HX3; earlier Triflex models also use that name. All still need routine care.

All six Miele Triflex HX3 packages

The package names chiefly help you choose included equipment and battery count. The base model provides the core HX3 features. Paying more buys particular conveniences, not a documented increase in the suction motor's cleaning power.

The Hardfloor Care Tool is a soft roller, not another complete powered floorhead. Also check the pet tool separately: Plus and Plus Aqua do not automatically include the Cat & Dog package's powered handheld brush.

How HX3 Aqua and AquaTwister work

AquaTwister uses two rotating pads, a 300 ml water tank, three selectable water levels, and lighting around the head. It provides a floor-washing option for compatible water-resistant flooring.

1. Dry-vacuum loose dust, grit, and hair with the appropriate vacuuming attachment.
2. Switch to AquaTwister for wet cleaning, following the appliance and flooring instructions.
3. After use, care for the tank and pads as directed; washable pads still need cleaning and drying.

It is a separate cleaning step. AquaTwister does not turn the Triflex into a machine that vacuums debris and mops simultaneously. Do not use its normal dry-vacuuming head to collect liquid.

Miele lists AquaTwister as compatible with all HX3 models, including as a later accessory purchase. It is not compatible with HX1 or HX2. If floor washing matters, that is a specific capability HX3 offers beyond the other families in this comparison.

Battery life: compare the setting and attachment, not just the headline

A runtime claim without its test setup is easy to misunderstand. The motor, powered brush, suction setting, floor resistance, battery condition, and frequency of Boost use all affect how long you can clean.

The useful Miele comparison is 30 versus 30 versus 38 minutes on low with electrical accessories. The 60- and 70-minute figures refer to the PowerUnit without the powered floorhead. Likewise, 140 minutes means two batteries under the maximum-runtime conditions, with a battery change required.

HX3 therefore has a published advantage over HX2 in that low-power category. HX1 Facelift's 17-minute high-power figure is longer than HX2's 14 and HX3's 15. Those settings do not establish identical suction output across generations, so neither comparison proves equivalent cleaning over the extra minutes.

We would not declare SEBO the high-power runtime winner from “20 versus 15” alone. Its U.S. claim does not provide the same attachment breakdown. A same-floor, same-task trial would be more useful than treating those figures as one standardized test.

Miele lists approximately four hours for a full recharge on these Triflex generations. Plan the charger location and spare-battery routine around your cleaning. If you frequently exhaust a battery halfway through a job, an extra compatible battery can matter more than another attachment.

Carpet, hardwood, delicate rugs, and pet hair: match the cleaning task

Carpet and area rugs

For a carpeted home, try the main powered head on carpet similar to yours. Check how readily it moves, whether it stalls, and whether a usable setting leaves enough runtime for the job. A suction specification cannot tell you how the head will behave on a dense or unusually soft pile.

Delicate rugs require a separate decision. Reduced suction, a soft roller, or automatic floor detection does not guarantee that rotating brushes are allowed. Hardwood, tile, and other hard flooring

The A1's included MicroCare roller and Miele's Hardfloor Care options are relevant to homes with extensive hard flooring. Keep the roller and wheels free of trapped grit, and check the floor finish's care instructions. A softer roller is useful equipment, but no roller can promise scratch-free use in every condition.

Separate dry debris pickup from washing. The HX3 Aqua options add the latter for suitable floors; a home whose floors cannot be wet-cleaned gets no benefit from paying for that attachment.

Pet hair on furniture and stairs

The Balance A1's included mini power brush and the HX2/HX3 Cat & Dog packages' powered handheld brushes are the tools to compare for fabric surfaces that permit them. Test on the kind of upholstery where hair accumulates, not only on an open patch of showroom carpet.

Look at more than hair pickup. Can you hold the tool comfortably on stair treads? Does it reach the sofa seams? Is the brush easy to access for cleaning? These daily tasks may make one package more suitable even when a different machine has the longer specification sheet.

Filtration: what HEPA, Hygiene, and microfiltration mean here

Keep the exact filter name attached to the exact machine. Standard HX1 Facelift uses Hygiene Lifetime; Flash has HEPA Lifetime. Miele lists HEPA Lifetime on the HX2 models reviewed and all six HX3 packages. SEBO describes the A1's standard system as multistage microfiltration.

Miele's 99.999% HX3 filtration claim is tied to stated appliance and HEPA test standards. Its dust-pickup claims concern different tests. Filtration percentage, dirt removal from flooring, and dust released while emptying a container are three different questions.

The SEBO material reviewed does not establish an equivalent whole-appliance percentage under the same test. That is a limit on the comparison, not proof that the A1 filters poorly. Avoid converting either brand's filter label into a promise about how someone will feel in their home.

All these machines are bagless. You still handle collected debris when emptying them. If avoiding that task is a priority, discuss the emptying routine as part of the purchase, alongside the exhaust-filter specification.

Maintenance, batteries, repair, and warranty

Bagless does not mean maintenance-free

Empty the container before it exceeds its fill line, inspect the floorhead, and address clogs promptly. If pickup falls off, check the air path and filters before assuming the battery or motor has failed. Switch off and disconnect the battery as the manual directs before maintenance.

Balance A1: SEBO provides access instructions for the container, cyclone, filters, and both brush rollers. Its U.S. manual specifically says not to wash the cyclone unit because it has electrical connections. Follow the individual component's instructions rather than rinsing the entire assembly.

Triflex: a Lifetime exhaust filter does not eliminate care of the separate prefilter and fine-dust filter. Miele's HX1 Facelift/HX2 support instructions specify dry cleaning of those filters and warn against washing them. Use the instructions supplied for your exact generation, including HX3, for the cleaning method and replacement schedule.

Both brands document replaceable components. SEBO publishes an A1 parts list including the battery, charger, container, filters, and brushes. Miele also lists Triflex batteries, filters, and replacement parts. That is useful ownership information; it does not guarantee future availability or a particular lifespan.

Check cordless warranty terms separately

SEBO's A1 product page states two years for parts, two years for labor, and one year for the battery. Its registration site excludes Balance A1 from the dealer warranty bonus. Do not apply the familiar extended corded-SEBO warranty to this cordless model.

Miele's current U.S. warranty table names two years for Triflex HX1/HX2, with different terms for HomeCare models. The table reviewed does not explicitly name HX3. Ask Avon to confirm the written HX3 coverage and battery terms for the exact item before purchase, rather than assume a canister or earlier-generation policy applies.

For either brand, keep the receipt and model information. Compare the machine price with any extra tools, spare battery, filters, and eventual service you may need. A replacement-battery option is useful, but its future cost belongs in the ownership decision.

At these prices, the A1 has the lowest entry cost. Whether it offers you the better value depends on the handling and features you need. Paying for Triflex's movable motor position can be worthwhile if you prefer it in use.

HX2 Cat & Dog and HX3 Cat & Dog are both listed at $999. With that price tie, we would start by comparing HX3's display, Boost, and published runtime against HX2's simpler controls and the exact included handheld tool. There is a concrete feature case for HX3, without needing to invent a cleaning-performance victory.

How to choose for your home

• Frequent carrying, car cleaning, and short jobs: start by handling the Balance A1 and its included tools.
• A stick vacuum feels heavy at your wrist: try a Triflex in Comfort mode, then lift it as you would on stairs. Compare both experiences.
• Pet hair on furniture: compare the A1 mini power brush with the actual HX2 or HX3 Cat & Dog handheld attachment.
• Long sessions: plan around powered-head runtime and a charged spare, rather than the maximum headline.
• Dry cleaning plus compatible floor washing: investigate HX3 Aqua or an HX3 with an added AquaTwister.
• An existing HX1 Facelift or HX2 still meets your needs: a newer model number alone is not a reason to replace it. Identify the specific limitation you want to solve first.

For a whole-home replacement, include a full cleaning session in your thinking: floors, stairs, furniture, emptying, and charging. For a second vacuum, prioritize the jobs you actually want it to take over. Those are different purchases, even when the shortlist is identical.

Is the SEBO Balance A1 better than the Miele Triflex?

It is lighter on the published figures and has the lowest listed starting price in this comparison. Triflex offers a movable motor unit, while HX3 adds features including a remaining-runtime display and AquaTwister compatibility. Those differences support task-specific choices, not a universal cleaning winner.

Is the Miele HX1 Facelift the same as the original HX1?

No. Facelift identifies a revised generation. Original HX1, HX1 Facelift, and Duoflex HX1 information should not be combined. Check the full name and item number, including whether the Facelift is the standard version or Flash.

Do all Miele HX1 Facelift vacuums have HEPA filtration?
