VacuMaid SR64 Inverted Bag Central Vacuum - Two 5.7" 2-Stage By-Pass Motors

The SR64 is VacuMaid's dual-motor estate unit: two 5.7-inch two-stage tangential bypass motors, a 38-quart can and a permanent inverted filter, all on 240-volt power. VacuMaid's approximate guide puts it at up to 18,000 square feet, the largest range of any power unit in this group. It is meant for a big installation that can supply the electrical service and wall space it needs.

Three things that set it apart

• Two motors. VacuMaid lists a combined 1040 air watts and 220 CFM.
• Choose your intake side. The supplied inlet stem lets the installer put the intake on the left or the right, which can help line it up with pipe that is already in the wall.
• A big can. 38 quarts under the permanent filter, plus a utility inlet on the front for a hose.

The 240-volt question

This is not a plug-in swap for a 120-volt unit. It needs a correctly installed 240-volt supply, with outlet, grounding and circuit matched to the rating plate and installation instructions. VacuMaid lists a 13.0-amp maximum current. The unit is 16⅛ inches across and 42⅜ inches high, so allow the manual's six inches of clearance and room to lower the can, and fasten the bracket to solid framing before connecting the tubing and low-voltage wiring.

VacuMaid's sound rating with the exhaust vented is 74 dB, the highest in this group. Where the unit hangs in relation to the rooms you live in is worth a conversation with your installer.

Can and filter routine

Look at the can weekly at first and empty it before it passes three-quarters full: unplug, support the can, release the latches, empty it and seat it against the gasket again. The manual suggests cleaning the filter three or four times a year, or at every emptying. Wrap the lower section in a large plastic bag and gently shake or brush the filter, which stays in place. It is not a HEPA cartridge. The catalog lists RB-24W as the replacement. If airflow seems low, check the filter and the can seal first.

The peak ratings are 1040 air watts, 220 CFM and 123 inches of sealed water lift. They are separate maximums rather than one reading at the tool, and the lower water lift compared with single-motor units is a reminder that airflow and lift are different things.

Warranty

On an eligible single-family U.S. installation, VacuMaid warrants the canister to the original owner for life, on a limited basis, and the motors and internal electrical components for 10 years. The canister term ends when the original owner no longer owns the system or the original building. Commercial use gets only 90 days. Brush wear, consumables, installation materials and installation work are excluded, and the owner may bear transportation and removal charges. Hold on to the purchase record in case you need to make a claim.

Choosing between the large units
