Miele Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog Bagless Canister Vacuum

Pets and carpet are the reasons to buy the Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog (material no. 10829410) over the other bagless Blizzards. It is the one with an electric head: the SEB 228 Electro Plus, a motorized carpet brush with its own controls at the handle, in a canister that collects into a two-liter bin instead of a bag.

Three brushes, three jobs

• SEB 228 Electro Plus: a height-adjustable electric brush that agitates suitable carpet.
• SBB 300-3 Parquet Twister: the soft-bristled hard-floor tool for appropriate floors.
• STB 101 mini turbobrush: an air-driven brush sized for suitable upholstery and carpeted stairs.
• Upholstery and crevice nozzles round out the kit, and the electric telescopic wand carries the brush controls and the electronic suction controls at the handle.

Because the carpet brush has its own switch in the handle, you can turn it off when you move from the rug to the hallway without bending down. The canister, hose, dust container and filter system complete the box.

Who it suits

Mixed floors, pets that spend time on suitable carpet, and an owner who is comfortable with routine bin and filter work. If you would rather seal the dirt in a bag and keep changes simple, compare the bagged Classic C1 Cat & Dog. If hard floors dominate and you only need a turbo brush for a few rugs, the Blizzard Turbo Team is the simpler pick.

The bagless routine

The Blizzard splits what it picks up. Coarse dirt drops into the main container, and fine dust goes to a separate chamber. There are no bags to buy, but there is upkeep:

1. Empty the container before dirt reaches the MAX mark, holding it close to the trash so less dust escapes.
2. Let ComfortClean do its job. It cleans the fine-dust filter automatically when needed, and pressing the button runs a manual cycle.
3. Once or twice a year, as the manual recommends, empty and clean the fine-dust chamber; do it sooner if the warning shows a restriction.
4. Rinse only the specified fine-dust filter surfaces, in cold water with no detergent, and give them at least 24 hours to dry.

The HEPA lifetime exhaust filter is not one to rinse, and not every filter in the machine is washable. Before clearing a blocked hose or cutting hair off a roller, switch off and unplug.

On the stairs and in the closet

Rest the canister on a stable step and work with the hose and the mini turbobrush; never haul it up by the hose. Miele lists 19 lb for the vacuum alone, and the body is about 20 1/4 inches wide, 12 1/4 tall and 12 1/4 deep, so it is a bulkier piece than the Boost. Leave space for the hose, wand and separate floorheads.

Warranty

Miele's current US household limited warranty lists 3 years for this model, subject to its terms. Keep your receipt. Normal wear and routine maintenance are excluded, and commercial use carries different coverage.
