VacuMaid SR14 Inverted Bag Central Vacuum - 5.7" Ultra 2-Stage Flow-Thru Motor

The SR14 is a 120-volt power unit with a 5.7-inch Ultra two-stage flow-through motor, a permanent inverted filter and a removable 27-quart dirt can. It is for the owner who would rather empty a can now and then than reorder paper bags, and a utility inlet on the front lets you plug a hose into the unit itself for jobs near it. VacuMaid sizes it for homes up to about 6,000 square feet.

How an inverted filter changes the routine

Dirt drops into the removable can below the permanent filter, so the routine is empty, refit and carry on. VacuMaid describes the design as cyclonic filtration with an added inverted-bag barrier. The filter is permanent but still needs periodic cleaning, and it is not a HEPA cartridge.

If you later prefer bags, VacuMaid offers an optional special stem that allows a sealed paper bag. That hardware and the bags are separate from the inverted-filter setup supplied here.

Emptying and filter care

Check the can weekly at first to learn how fast your household fills it, and empty it before it passes three-quarters full. Unplug the unit, support the can as you release the latches and seat it squarely against the gasket afterward.

The manual calls for cleaning the inverted filter about three or four times a year, or whenever you empty the can. Wrap the lower section in a large plastic bag and gently shake or brush the filter, leaving it attached. The catalog lists RB-18W as the replacement inverted filter. If airflow drops, look at the filter and the container seal first.

Wiring and clearance

The SR14 needs a grounded 120-volt supply matched to its rating plate, and VacuMaid lists a 14.5-amp maximum current. Leave at least six inches around the unit and room to reach the can. The body stands 39⅞ inches tall and 12⅞ inches across, so it is a taller unit than the 23⅜-inch SR38 that shares its motor.

The unit's sound rating with the exhaust vented is 58 dB. Motor maximums are 740 air watts, 138 CFM and 138 inches of sealed water lift, each measured separately.

Warranty

On eligible single-family installations in the U.S., VacuMaid gives the original owner a lifetime limited warranty on the canister and 10 years on the motor and internal electrical components. The canister coverage ends if that owner no longer owns the system or the original building. Commercial use has a 90-day term. Brush wear, consumables, installation materials and installation work are not covered, and transportation or removal charges can stay with the owner.

Questions about the SR14

Can I use paper bags in it?

Only with VacuMaid's optional special stem, sold separately. As supplied, it runs on the inverted filter.

What does the front inlet do?

It lets a compatible hose plug straight into the unit, which is handy for a workbench or a utility room beside the power unit.
