Description

The SR52 pairs a 7.2-inch Premier tangential bypass motor with a multi-layer disposable HEPA-style bag, in a body that is only 26 inches tall. VacuMaid's approximate sizing guide reaches 10,000 square feet, so it covers big homes without the tall cabinet some large units need. It runs on 120-volt power, holds 27 quarts and, by VacuMaid's listing, weighs 35 pounds.

What sets the SR52 apart

  • Bagged collection. A five-layer bag with an inner liner lifts out whole when it is full.
  • A shorter cabinet. At 26 inches it is 10 inches lower than the SR66, which stands 36 inches.
  • Brush interrupter. VacuMaid lists one on this model.

The bag

Use HPB2H HEPA-style bags for this unit; VacuMaid also lists the plain paper HPB1 as an alternative. Either way, the bag is a consumable that is thrown away whole.

  1. Switch off and unplug, then open the canister.
  2. Ease the used collar off the inlet stem, seal the bag with its flap and lift it out.
  3. Expand the new bag fully and seat the collar in the stem groove.
  4. Check the protector plate and safety screen, then close the lid.

Weekly checks for the first month will tell you your own fill rate. Replace the bag when airflow drops or dirt loading shows, whatever the quart capacity says. If a bag leaks, clean the affected screens as the manual describes.

Electrical and sound details

The SR52 draws up to 15.8 amps, the highest maximum current among the 120-volt VacuMaid units in this group, so have the circuit checked against the rating plate before you swap one in. Its sound rating with the exhaust vented is 70 dB, against 58 dB listed for the SR36, SR38 and SR66. Think about where the unit will hang in relation to living space.

Motor maximums are 631 air watts, 121 CFM and 142 inches of sealed water lift. Those are separate peak measurements rather than one reading, and your tubing, leaks and hose decide the rest.

Warranty

A residential, single-family installation in the U.S. carries a lifetime limited canister warranty for the original owner, plus 10 years on the motor and internal electrical components. The canister term lapses when the original owner no longer owns the system or the original building. Commercial use gets 90 days. Brush wear, consumables, installation materials and labor are excluded; transportation and removal-and-reinstall charges can be the owner's responsibility. Is the supplied bag a HEPA bag?

VacuMaid describes it as a large five-layer disposable HEPA-style bag. We use the maker's wording and make no filtration-grade claim beyond it.

How does it compare with the SR66?

The SR66 has a 6.6-inch motor in a 36-inch cabinet. The SR52 puts the larger motor in the shorter body.
